Pancreatic Cancer ScreeningSupport Pancreatic Cancer Screening in Connecticut
Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers, with a five-year survival rate of only 12%.
It is often diagnosed at a stage when treatment options are limited, and outcomes are poor. By the time symptoms appear, it might be too late with the cancer being advanced. In the U.S., 67,440 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2025. In Connecticut, it is the second leading cause of cancer deaths, according to the American Cancer Society.
Early detection is critical, but too many high-risk Connecticut residents lack access to timely screening services.
A bill before the Connecticut General Assembly would change that. If approved, Senate Bill 1191 would ensure that all Connecticut residents—regardless of income or insurance status—have a fighting chance against one of the most aggressive forms of cancer.
Screenings can involve a blood test, endoscopic ultrasound, genetic testing and imaging studies that involve a CT scan or MRI, to cite a few.
Please ask your legislators to support SB 1191. Tell legislators: Early detection saves lives.
About Senate Bill 1191 An Act Establishing a Pancreatic Cancer Screening and Treatment Referral Program
SB 1191 would create a statewide program to:
- Provide screening and treatment referrals for individuals at elevated risk of pancreatic cancer.
- Focus outreach on underserved communities, including those living below 250% of the federal poverty level and individuals without existing coverage for screening services.
- Launch public education initiatives to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer, its risk factors, and the importance of early detection.

On behalf of the Radiological Society of Connecticut, thank you for your support.
